1. Visit Dam Square, the first thing to do in Amsterdam

A true classic. Dam Square is the most iconic place in Amsterdam and possibly the most touristy in the whole city. And no wonder, as it is one of the most beautiful squares in Europe.

It is home to some of the city’s main attractions , from the Bijenkorf department stores , the most important in the city, to the Royal Palace (the official residence of the Dutch monarchy, but not de facto), Madame Taussauds and the Nieuwe Kerk.

2. Anne Frank House

Another must-see visit in Amsterdam is to visit – essential – and optionally – Anne Frank’s house.

As you probably already know, Anne Frank was a Jewish girl of German origin who was hidden for more than two years in Amsterdam from the Nazis during the occupation of the Netherlands .

During that time she wrote her diary – the famous Diary of Anne Frank – where she recounted her daily life in hiding in Amsterdam, her relationship with her family and her feelings.

Eventually, Anna and her family were discovered and taken to various concentration camps. There, she did not survive. The House – for which you need a ticket – can be visited inside. We found it a very interesting visit and we recommend it to everyone.

It is an area full of coffee shops – it is legal to smoke marijuana inside the premises – many terraces and bars , sex shops and some shop windows with prostitutes offering their services, something that is also legal in the Netherlands.

Be careful! It is a safe area that you can visit perfectly, even at night. So don’t worry.

Amsterdam is inherent in the word canal . Known as the Venice of the North, like the beautiful Stockholm , the city is made up of a lot of canals – more than 150 throughout the city – that have shaped the appearance of the city.

I’m going to tell you one by one all the options you have.

1. Bus from Bordeaux Airport to the centre: bus 1+

The cheapest option is the 1+ bus , which leaves right outside the airport. Tickets can be bought from a machine right next to the bus station and cost 1.70 euros .

It is a normal, regular bus: it leaves from Saint Jean Central Station , runs through the city centre and the final stop is at the airport.

Be careful! It makes many stops and it can take you around 30 minutes to get from the city centre to the airport, or vice versa. However, the price is very low.

2. Taxi or transfer

Another option to get to the city centre is to take a taxi . As you know, it is always an option, especially when there are several of you and you want to get to the city centre more comfortably.

However, like everything else, comfort will cost you around 25-30 euros . There are plenty of taxis right outside the arrivals terminal, so you won’t have any trouble finding one.
